During World War II, severe atrocities were committed across the globe in violation of human rights. Much is known about the horrors of the holocaust and the mistreatment of the citizens of Russia. However, a grave human rights violation in Japan was hushed up and hidden from public knowledge. At the Japanese research facility, Unit 731, horrible human experiments and medical tests were conducted on enemy POWs and innocent Chinese civilians. This grave violation of human rights was one of the greatest war crimes committed by the Japanese empire.
Human Rights
Human rights are the fundamental privileges that we, as humans, all have. It means that all humans regardless of gender, race, or beliefs have the right to be treated as such: a human. Human rights forbid atrocities such as torture and murder, giving every human basic unalienable rights such as the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, the right to a fair trial, freedom from slavery, and the right to safely engage in politics. [1] They are natural laws that simply exist; moral norms that have been put into international law as a way to preserve the rights of people around the world.
A human rights violation is an act that is in contradiction of human rights. Human rights violations take many forms; murder, torture, enslavement, and government oppression can all be forms of human rights violations. These violations are often committed on large scales by corrupt governments. One murder is a crime but the genocide of an entire ethnicity is a human right violation.
